Konnar Morris, 22, was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 3 after a 9-1-1 caller reported a suspicious man dressed in black, with a handgun visible in his waistband, Lyndhurst Police Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Ridge Road at 9:18 a.m., where Officer Anthony Morreale found Morris in the 600 block of Lake Avenue, Auteri said.
Joined by Lt. Paul Haggerty and Officers Brian Kapp and Michael Clifford, The officers confronted Morris and found a loaded 9mm handgun tucked into his waistband, Auteri said.
Morris was arrested and taken to the Lyndhurst Police Department, where he was processed and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, open carry of a firearm, possession of an unsecured firearm, and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
Police believe Morris, who was staying with a friend in the area, may not have realized that New Jersey prohibits open carry of firearms. A search warrant executed on Morris’s vehicle revealed additional 9mm ammunition. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail as the investigation continues and additional charges are considered.
